Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of California
Dr. Gaitanis received his M.D. degree from Brown Medical School, completed his neurology residency at Children’s Hospital Boston, and completed an epilepsy fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
He is board certified in neurology with special qualifications in child neurology and clinical neurophysiology. John is currently the Chief of pediatric neurology at Tufts Medical Center and the Director of child neurology at Tufts Medical Center/Floating Hospital for Children. He was in charge of the pediatric epilepsy programs at Brown Medical School and Hasbro Children's Hospital.
In addition to his extensive clinical work, John's research interests include digital signal processing in EEG to improve sensitivity and performance. He is particularly interested in the biophysical processes of EEG, infant and childhood epilepsy, and cortical malformations as epileptogenic foci.
Dr. Hixson received his bachelor of science degree in biochemistry and genetics at Texas A&M University and medical degree from Johns Hopkins University. John completed a neurology residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and a fellowship in epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
He is board certified in neurology with special qualifications in child neurology and clinical neurophysiology. He is board certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Hixson is currently an Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of California, San Francisco, and is an active member of the VA Innovations Initiative Patient-Facing Effort and the UCSF mHealth Group.
John is interested in mobile health solutions as they relate to the care of chronic neurological diseases and disorders, with particular focus in seizure detection and quantification.
